AQC clever students

The wonderful event of Australian Quilters Convention was held again in April 11-14th 2019 at the historic Exhibition Royal Building at Carlton Gardens, Melbourne.
Beautiful gardens and spectacular fountains greet you. This year we found the grand old building cloaked over as she is having some renovations. Maybe a touch up or two perhaps?

This was my 6 th time teaching for Expertise Events at AQC and always a wonderful time.

This year was AQC 's 15 th birthday. Wow 15 years thats a huge achievement. Congratulations Judy and Garry for producing an amazing event for us to learn, share and teach at.

This big pink celebration cake greeted us as we arrived in the building.  )( expected someone to pop out of the top really) There were a number of people who also celebrated 15 years of attending AQC and they received special badges and a certificate.

I had 2 classes both 2 days each, Dads Dahlia and Mums Hibiscus. Both from my latest large scale machine applique collection.

The applique fusible components are numerous, too many to draw in class so the students were all given the fused shapes, book, pattern and goodies in a bag.

AHUGE Thank you to Denise Green my great friend who helped with this process it took us a few weeks to draw and cut but it was well received.

I was lucky again to be in the BERNINA room and had 20  x BERNINA 770 machines in class.  The Wednesday before class I was very lucky to have some fantastic AQC people who managed to get a table for each of the 20 students. This helped so much with the full experience of 4 great days.

Thank you BERNINA Australia crew for your assistance and goodie bags for the students and my tutor gift.

My Glamorous Clams BERNINA Special Edition book sold out at the BERNINA stand. Thank you and if you missed out it is  available at your local BERNINA dealer.

Look at the Dads Dahlias done in class after my words. So wonderful, bright and fun. Each Dahlia was individual as they brought along their own fabrics and threads. It was the first time many of the ladies had used 12 weight cotton threads in their machines. They were a huge hit. Great class everyone, I loved it ......

Saturday and Sunday was Mums Hibiscus and all fused shapes for there hibiscus were in their bags again , ladies were so grateful. This we managed to save so many hours of drawing so we could get on to the fun stuff.... stitching....  We decided to concentrate mostly on 2 petals to learn all the skills then grid free motion quilting in the Sunday afternoon. Another great class....

AQC has many wonderful exhibitions and here are only a few of the spectacular quilts there. My apologies for no names . Literally I had very little time to wander the quilts.

Sadly one of my quilting heroes passed away this Easter Gwen Marsden. Quite a wonderful woman , so creative, and down to earth. Thank you Gwen for the couple of days we shared at Taupo symposium, your encouragement and wise words of "make what makes you happy"..... RIP...

(For those who are in my once a month classes May is the last month I  am collecting the goods for the charity for post natal mothers. )

Another big month in class with spectacular work

Have a happy productive, safe month everyone.

Happy Quilting
