February Sucess

I cant believe it is March already!

I would like to share some wonderful work that has started this year at my once a month classes.
These classes are at the following locations :

Berry Quilt and Co  at Berry  1 class
My Sewing Supplies at Kirrawee 4 classes
Hobby Sew at  Kings Park  2 classes
Material Obsession at Drummoyne 1 class

Firstly Berry Quilt and Co

Formally know as The Berry Patchwork Shop much loved  by the wonderful Elizabeth Dubbelde. On the first of February this year Sharon Thomson took over the reigns of this lovely shop in the beautiful Township of Berry on the NSW South Coast.
I was the very first tutor for Sharon which was very special. We had our second class for the year today . The shop has the most beautiful fabrics , still wonderful service, friendly warm atmosphere and a delight to be part of.

Sharon surrounded by beautiful fabrics everywhere.
Just so easy to find what you are after as all the fabrics are grouped in colour
beauty everywhere you look.
The ladies are doing varied work, from my applique clam shell cushion to free form piecing and quilting and appliqueing their own quilts.

The ladies are doing varied work, from my applique clam shell cushion to free form piecing and quilting and appliqueing their own quilts. Photos in the coming months of the progress here. Thank you ladies we had such a  lovely day. I am  thrilled by all the questions and eagerness to learn so many new techniques.

Kings Park Hobby Sew

Hobby Sew Kings Park Thursday Ladies were busy indeed. Here Sue is working on her borders of the Daisy days quilt . A new layout with two off set blocks and borders on two sides only. We talked about where this quilt will live and its going on a bed next to a wall. So we came up with only 2 borders and the other two sides will not be seen.... Only bottom ad left hand side....Saving Sue many hours of cutting out and stitching...

building up the border daisy's

looking sensational Sue  , beautiful work.

Diane was very productive over the holidays indeed. Here above is Dis completed Hearts and lollipops quilt which looks wonderful. All quilted by Di . and a cushion to match the quilt.
Also Diane has completed her secret garden cushion complete with black fringing around the edges. Love it all.

 Friday Kings Park

The Friday class at Hobby Sew Kings Park  has also been busy over the break. Below is Ali's Secret garden wall hanging . Clam shells will be placed on the bottom and lots of leaves around the vines. This is so beautiful wonderful Ali , makes me really happy to see you are enjoying the machine decorative stitch applique so much.

As part of the once a month class I'm here to give advice on machine quilting  your quilts . This lovely quilt above made by June who also attends the talented Michelle Marvig piecing class, needed some quilting advice. Cant wait to see how you get on June. We discussed repeating the applique on quilting only in grey thread down the two outside borders and add quilted leaves around the applique and a few different fillers in the background.

I love to redesign and play around with my designs for each students individual needs . Here I have drawn up a new version of the secret garden table runner for Jenny as a new and larger bed runner. Jenny has a pallet of blues, turquoise and taupes. I believe it will look stunning when completed.. Cant wait ....

Robyn has had a lot of enjoyment getting to know the decorative stitching on her machine with this Glam Clam cushion. Robyn commented to me that she has learnt a lot , made some mistakes , sure but that's how we learn getting on the machine and stitching , just doing it...It looks sensational Robyn , congratulations, your off and running.

My Sewing Supplies

My sewing Supplies classes were great fun last week , welcome back everyone and hello new ladies, lovely to have you in class. Relax and enjoy the next months.

Here Sandra has taken to free form cutting and piecing very quickly . Sandra is interested in Earthy outback themed quilts , colours of sunset in the bush. we will explore this in the coming months.

Colour Pallets are so important to me , getting the colour , value and print choice is so important before you start a new quilt. Just a small chip of fabric on paper is all is needed. Also a stich diary of decorative stitches  is in the making on the right hand side . Great to see. So worth the time and effort.

Piecing underway and then the good part the machine quilting ... Yah..... isn't that right Denise ?

Sharon with here free form work from last years Berry retreat is coming along very nicely . The machine Quilting will add texture and extra colour . Love it ..

How beautiful is this cushion going to be the colour in the clam shells brings all the colour and fabrics together beautifully .

I showed the ladies how to decorative stitch hexagons. Well here is a challenge for Gail, one fabric , how many different hexagon patterns can she get?  stay tuned , should be interesting indeed...

Jan is quilting her Baltimore. Wow it is stunning , such a huge effort . The quilt is very large and heavy , Jan just chips away at it a few times a week. Sensational Jan so proud of you.

Here Diane is making the happy quilt and really enjoying it.

Looking forward to March, ladies, see you then.

I love to get photos from students whom I teach at their location and see the finished result after I have left. This is one such success.
Dulcie attended my class in Launceston with Robyn Miller "Sewkint" fame and has completed her beautiful quilt .... all appliqued and quilted by Dulcie ,,  Super isn't it ...  Well done ...

I had the pleasure of teaching a group of ladies early February at Corowa which is close to Albury NSW. Leanne and Derek hosted on their beautiful property 2 great days of sewing. What a beautiful treat to work with these views..... I will be back February 2017.

This painting by Tom Roberts  "The shearing Shed " was painted on this property.
Wine time later afternoon under the shade of this magnificent tree...

I was delighted to hear that my quilt "HAIR" was selected to be part of the 32 quilts selected by Quilt curator Brenda Gail Smith ,a new exhibition  A Matter of Time ....
This new exhibition has its unveiling this weekend at the Stitches and Craft show here in Sydney at Rosehill Racecourse.
My Hair quilt is the story of my husband John. How has his life has  evolved, what has influenced his life, his family heritage, his home, me , children, work, sports , all of these stages of life influences our appearance. And in time Black turns to white. Black hair turns to white. The quilt is free form pieced and quilted only with the walking foot , large stitching in heavy threads. All these influences in Johns life are represented by strips and colour. The quilt is a subtle blend of hues , calm, relaxed easy to look at , easy to listen to , just like John.
You can view the quilts and hear the stories on Facebook page =  A matter of time or www.amatteroftimetextile.com
